Bimini: Off We Go!

BY

Rev. Gretchen Bretz and her daughter, Becca (Ft. Lauderdale)

We left on Sunday, July 3, arriving in Ft. Lauderdale enjoying some play time on the strip and time to get acquainted. With my pod came Linda, Gretchen, and Becca. We then flew to the island of Bimini – the closest island of the Bahamas to the U.S.

We were in a 9 passenger Gulf Stream twin prop which was in itself an experience. The landing strip seemed short and we discovered 400 meters was indeed short but enough for them to land. The island has two: the North and South islands divided by waters. We stayed on the side where most of the Biminians live. On the other side are the resorts, larger homes, etc. It is the resort side that Gary Hart stayed and that the final scene in Silence of the Lambs was filmed. I was glad we stayed where the locals lived verses where the tourists gathered.

There were 20 others in our pod and eight staff from WildQuest. Bimini is a gorgeous island of the Bahamas that is surrounded by the turquoise blue waters. The people are gracious and friendly. The island life is safe and laid back. The WildQuest staff was phenomenal; I can’t say enough about my experience and all they provided.
